Iran: Rouhani accuses US, Saudi Arabia of 'spreading propaganda' on oil facilities attack

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani accused the US and Saudi Arabia of "spreading propaganda" on the Saudi oil facilities attack and said Iran would criticise US sanctions in front of the United Nations, while leaving Tehran's Mehrabad Airport for New York City on Monday.
"We are going to the United Nations because the Americans have increased their cruel sanctions against the great nation of Iran," Rouhani said.
"[Sanctions and pressure] show the complete desperation of the US," the Iranian President said.
Rouhani touched on the Aramco oil facilities attack by accusing Washington DC and Riyadh of "spreading propaganda" on the matter.
"Why are they spreading propaganda rather than the truth? The damage which can be fixed in two weeks, they are saying will not be fixed in one month, because the US intends to capture this region completely," Rouhani said. "They are now saying that they want to bring the Patriot system and it is crystal clear that they want to capture all the east of Saudi Arabia's oil."
The drone attacks took place on September 14 at an oil processing facility in Abqaiq and the Khurais oil field, effectively cutting 5.7 million barrels per day or 5 percent of global output. Houthi militants operating in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the US and Saudi authorities both have accused Iran of the attacks.
