Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna and Miss Russia 2015 Sofia Nikitchuk, underwent an HIV/IDS test at the Centre of Molecular Diagnostics in Moscow on Tuesday, to promote the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) initiative.
Speaking at a press conference following the testing regional director of UNAIDS Vinay Saldanha, said that by the year 2020 to program aims for "90 percent of people with HIV to know their HIV status. 90 percent of these people get the necessary treatment and 90 percent of the treated people reach zero viral load after that.""
Beauty queen Nikitchuk said "today a great deal of attention is paid to this problem and it is very good. As far as I know five or six years ago there was no such consideration about it".
The United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) initiative 90-90-90 program aims to promote awareness, so that more people get tested and treated in order to control the spread of the infections.
In January, head of the federal AIDS centre Vadim Pokrovsky said that Russia's HIV/AIDS epidemic was gathering strength, stating that the number of HIV-positive Russians could be as high as 1.5 million, meaning that up to 500,000 could be unregistered.
