Thousands of protesters held a mass torch-lit demonstration in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa, Thursday, rallying against alleged government corruption and collusion with the US. Their final destination on the march was the Public Ministry, where protesters stopped and chanted anti-government slogans. Vice President of the National Congress of Honduras Lena Gutierrez is the latest official to be called to tribunal for her alleged participation in the embezzlement of $350 million (€264 million) of the Honduran Institute of Social Security (IHSS). Some of the money allegedly went to the ruling National Party, led by Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who has recently accepted that he received cheques relating to the embezzled monies. Protesters were also railing against the potential involvement of former President Porfirio Lobo Sosa and calling for the resignation of several top prosecutors for failing to hold a proper investigation. This is the second demonstration of its kind in a matter of weeks.
