Hundreds of far-right activists marched in Rome, Saturday, against a proposed nationality law, 'Ius Soli', which would grant Italian citizenship to second generation immigrants born in the country. The protest was organised by the fascist organisation CasaPound.
The protesters marched past Rome's famous landmarks, such as the Colosseum, chanting slogans against immigrants and waving CasaPound and Italian flags. The parade concluded in front of the CasaPound headquarters on the Esquiline Hill.
CasaPound leader Simone Di Stefano said, "we consider this law as crazy and criminal and it's also useless. The children of immigrants already have granted the same kind of assistance we provide to Italian children in any field, so we don't grant them anything new with the 'Ius Soli', but we affirm a criminal principle according to which Italians don't exist, we are just people who were born here before others."
Moreover, Di Stefano added, "we are not just people who were born here before others, we are the sons of our parents, our grandfathers, or grand-grandfathers, we are the heirs of ancient Rome and of all that there has been here since ancient Rome until 2017."
