Strasbourg residents and tourists had a chance to walk once again through the city's Christmas market on Friday, after it was re-opened three days after an assailant opened fire at the site, killing four and leaving several critically injured.
A local resident said, "we were not [initially] completely reassured, especially because they hadn't caught the perpetrator of the attack yet, but since yesterday we are reassured and calmer."
"It's good [that they opened the market]. I thought they wouldn't re-open after all that happened, but life goes on. Let's hope that everything will go well until the end," said one of the sellers of the market.
The Strasbourg attack, which occurred near one of the city's famous Christmas markets, happened shortly before 20:00 CEST (19:00 GMT) on Tuesday and left three people dead and a dozen more injured.
The suspect was named by police as 29-year-old Strasbourg native Cherif Chekatt, who reportedly has an extensive criminal record and was on a French government watch list of people who potentially represent threats to national security.
On Thursday, French police announced they had 'neutralised' the suspect in an operation in the Strasbourg suburb of Neudorf.
