SOT, Virgilio Hernandez, protester (Spanish): "There have been protests against president Lenin Moreno across the country. Basically, the forthcoming election makes a country-wide civil campaign necessary from various sections of the population. What is atypical this week is that the mobilisation was general across the country and the numbers are growing all the time."

Thousands of activists blocked roads and lit up fires in Quito on Tuesday on the second day of a national strike against president Lenin Moreno in Quito. Similar protests were taking place in major cities across the country.
"The forthcoming election makes a country-wide civil campaign necessary from various sections of the population. What is atypical this week is that the mobilisation was general across the country and the numbers are growing all the time", said Virgilio Hernandez, one of protesters.
Protesters are angry at the government's policies that were approved in order to reach a $4.2 billion deal with the International Monetary Fund in February.
On Wednesday, taxi drivers are expected to join the nation-wide protest which is set to last until the weekend.
