Protesters staged a sit-in at a shopping mall in Hong Kong on Thursday, to commemorate the four-month anniversary of the attack at the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) station of Yuen Long.
Masked protesters were seen holding their lit up smartphones and singing 'Glory to Hong Kong'. Riot police were deployed to the scene, and a number of arrests were reportedly made.
The Yuen Long attack took place on July 21, following a protest against a now-suspended extradition bill. The incident occurred when a group of some 100 men clad in white reportedly stormed the MTR station and attacked passengers, including anti-government protesters. At least 45 people were injured in the attack.
Anti-government protesters have denounced what they described as police inaction following the Yuen Long attack, citing a delay in the arrival of the police to the scene and a lack of arrests on that night.
Hong Kong has been rocked by protests sparked by the now-withdrawn extradition bill since March. The rallies have since evolved into a wider movement against the government, marked by violent clashes between protesters and the authorities.
