SOT, Gergely Karacsony, Newly-elected mayor of Budapest (Hungarian): "Because the Republic, which was established exactly 30 years on this very same day suddenly disappeared 8 years ago from Hungary's official name. And in the following year it disappeared from our everyday life too. It is disappearing from our lives. We just stopped this destruction 10 days ago. And that is why this day is the rebirth of the Republic too."

SOT, Gergely Karacsony, Newly-elected mayor of Budapest (Hungarian): "The leaders who started at the bottom are looking down on us now. The privileged who think they can do whatever they want with showing off their wealth and power. Let's take our dreams back from them. To fulfill the dream of the people of 1956 and 1989 and of 10 days ago we will need the power of the people not the power of the rulers."

Newly-elected mayor of Budapest Gergely Karacsony addressed his supporters in the Hungarian capital on Wednesday, declaring "the rebirth of the Republic," speaking on the anniversary of 1965 Hungarian uprising against the communist rule.
He said that people should stop the disappearance of the Republic from their day-to-day life, stressing the necessity to take back people's "dreams" from the "rulers," calling for people's power to be established.
Gergely Karacsony, a pro-European centre-left opposition candidate and the opponent of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his ruling party Fidesz, won Budapest municipal election on October 13.
