In a blow to marsupial supporters in the small town of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, city officials have implemented changes to the municipal code. The city now forbids the use of kangaroos as service animals.
The move comes following an incident at a McDonald's earlier this year.
In February, Diana Moyer walked into a Beaver Dam McDonald's with a baby kangaroo wrapped in a blanket and confined to a carseat. According to the Daily Citizen, Moyer claimed it was a "therapy animal." She noted she had carried the animal, Jimmy, to local businesses, including the same McDonald's, many times before without incident. Now, only dogs and miniature horses are allowed to be service animals in Beaver Dam.
