SOT, Doug Yakel, San Francisco International Airport Spokesperson: "On Friday the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) announced plans to begin screening for three airports in the US, including SFO (San Francisco International Airport). In our case the screenings with the CDC actually began on Saturday morning."

SOT, Doug Yakel, San Francisco International Airport Spokesperson: "The CDC has not indicated any plans at this point to expand the nature of the screening. Right now it's happening for all customers who are either, coming to SFO non-stop from Wuhan, and that happens three times a week on a non-stop flight, and then also connecting passenger[s] who's traveller - connecting passengers who's travel originated in Wuhan; those individuals are also subject to the screening process that the CDC has kicked off."

SOT, Doug Yakel, San Francisco International Airport Spokesperson: "Our understanding is that what the CDC is doing is passing out a questionnaire on board the aircraft and then when the Wuhan passengers are arriving they are being directed to a separate area inside the customs facility, and at that point they are being interviewed and examined by CDC officials. I don't know the exact nature of what that interaction looks like, I do understand that a temperature check is part of the process though."

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has begun screening passengers travelling from the Chinese city of Wuhan for the deadly new coronavirus, according to a spokesperson who spoke from the airport on Tuesday.
"On Friday the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) announced plans to begin screening for three airports in the US, including SFO," said SFO spokesperson Doug Yakel.
Yakel explained who was being screened saying that "it's happening for all customers who are either, coming to SFO non-stop from Wuhan," as well as "connecting passengers who's travel originated in Wuhan."
The CDC is also conducting checks on passengers arriving at Los Angeles International Airport and the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
An outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by a newly emerging coronavirus - also known as 2019-nCoV - was reported in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019. Since then, six people have died, according to China's National Health Commission.
