Turkish journalist Cengiz Candar, accused of insulting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his work, appeared before a penal court in the Bakirkoy district of Istanbul, Thursday. Candar did not enter a plea, according to reports.
The court decided to adjourn the case until the Constitutional Court releases a decision on the matter.
Speaking to the press on departing the court building Candar said: "How could it be possible that I insulted a president? I was a consultant for to the previous president Abdullah Gul. I still have my personal relations with Mr Gul. I am one of few the men who knows how to address, how to behave towards the presidents. I am a man with forty years of journalism experience, have worked with seven different presidents and never received any complaints from any of them."
