Russia: EMERCOM reports on missing Ilyushin IL-76 aircraft

Russia's Emergencies Ministry gave an initial briefing in Moscow, Friday, on the firefighting plane that went missing whilst attempting to tackle a blaze in Russia's Irkutsk region on Thursday.
The Ilyushin IL-76 aircraft had ten fire-fighters and crew members on board and was said to be in a good condition before the flight. It is reported that the aircraft was in the Kachug area, where the smoke was reported to be extremely thick. A search operation was launched after contact was lost around 05:34, local time.
Igor Kirzhakov, first deputy head of the EMERCOM Siberian Regional Centre, said: "currently, eight aircraft, including two aircraft from the coordination centre and six aircraft from the Russia's Emergencies Ministry, are working on the territory of the Siberian Federal District."
