Russia: Lavrov pays respects to "legendary" Primakov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov paid his respects to Yevgeny Maksimovich Primakov from Moscow, Friday, after the former Russian Prime Minister passed away on Friday, stating "it is impossible not to recognise the importance of this great person, statesman, politician, journalist, scientist and publicist". Lavrov said that Primakov "made an invaluable contribution to the development of our foreign policy principles," adding that "it was Primakov who formulated the concept of multi-polarity." The Russian Foreign Minister also said that Primakov was "legendary" and made an "enormous contribution to world sciences," adding that "he will be sorely missed." The former Russian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov died aged 85 after a protracted illness in Moscow. Primakov went into politics in 1989 and during his career served as chairman of the Soviet Union as well as director of Russia's external intelligence services between 1991 and 1996. Primakov spent the later years of his in life dedicated to academia, becoming a member of the governing board of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
