Thousands of sheep and some goats were shepherded through Madrid on Sunday, as part of an annual parade known as 'Fiesta de la Transhumancia'.
Tourists and city-dwellers were surprised to see the capital brought to a standstill by the ovine march while it bleated its way past some of the city's top locations.
The Spanish capital sits on an ancient migration route, which shepherds would use to move their livestock to greener pastures south in winter.
The festival started in 1994 and calls for protect of ancient grazing, droving and migration rights increasingly threatened by urban sprawl and modern agricultural practices.
