Dozens of shops in some of Karbala's bustling streets were closed on Sunday, as thousands of people descend on the city's central square as part of the ongoing anti-government protests in the country.
Footage shows the shops' entrances being covered in colourful cloths, with various placards and banners attached to them. Moreover, the footage shows the protesters waving numerous Iraqi flags and chanting.
Massive anti-government protests have gripped the country since October 1, with demonstrators filling the streets, to denounce high levels of unemployment, widespread corruption and a lack of basic services.
