Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev congratulated Russian Olympic medalists for their performance in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Moscow, Thursday, awarding each medal-winning athlete with a brand-new BMW car.
Olympic gold medalists received a brand-new BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupe, those who secured silver medals were awarded with the BMW X4 model and bronze medalist winners became owners of a new BMW X3.
While addressing the Russian Olympic team, Medvedev stated that "victories of our sports have nothing to do with doping or with any other sins which are sometimes ascribed to us. You have achieved these convincing results and defeated your rivals in a fair and beautiful fight," adding that "you are our heroes indeed, the heroes of our country."
The awarding ceremony took place at the Kremlin Ivanovskaya Square shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin honoured the Olympians at the Alexandr Hall in the Grand Kremlin Palace.
The Russian team came fourth overall at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, winning 19 gold medals, 18 silvers, and 19 bronzes.
