More than five thousand people took part in a reenactment of the Battle of Waterloo, Saturday, near to site of the original battle, in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant, to mark the 200th anniversary of French Emperor Napoleon's defeat at the hands of the combined force of British and Prussian troops led by the Duke of Wellington. History lovers from over 52 countries were involved in the reenactment which took place over three days and covered an area of over 2,500 hectares (6,200 acres). Germany had the most participants, making up 17.8 percent of those taking part in the reenactment, whilst Russian participants made up eight percent of the overall number. Close to 60,000 spectators attended Saturday's event to watch as cannons fired and cavalry charged into battle.
