2
10.09.2016
Thousands of officers from police, coast guard and fire services gathered in Thessaloniki on Friday, to demonstrate against government cuts to public services.
Demonstrating in uniform, some 2,500 servicemen called for the reversal of cuts to salaries and pensions. The rally took place just before many of the officers were due on shift to provide security for a series of anti-austerity demonstrations that will take place over the opening weekend of the Thessaloniki International Fair.
Up to 4,000 officers, 20 riot police squads and 50 motorcycle police are due to be on duty in the city over the weekend.
