United Nations Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen continued discussions regarding the constitutional committee with Syrian officials on Wednesday.
"I have just concluded the first round of meeting with the Foreign Minister, [Walid] al-Mulalem, and his team. We will continue the meetings this afternoon," Pedersen told the press upon his arrival to the Four Seasons hotel.
Pedersen is in Damascus amid intensified clashes in the province of Idlib, north-west, between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and militant groups. Government forces are seeking to regain control on vital routes linking Aleppo with Damascus and Latakia, the M5 and M4 respectively.
In October 2019, the Syrian Constitutional Committee made up of government, opposition and civil society delegations, began formal discussions.
The Committee was founded during Sochi conference in Russia, in January 2018.
