Several hundred people marched through the streets of Belgrade during a march to protest against the eventual admission of the territories of Kosovo into UNESCO on Wednesday. Protesters waved Serbian flags, along with flags of the Army of the Republic of Srpska and some others depicting neo-Nazi-related signs such as the Celtic cross. They also lit flares, held banners and chanted slogans claiming that Kosovo is a Serbian province rather than an "artificial American creation." The action was called by some student organisations of Belgrade University. Some of them addressed the crowds once the march had finished. The UNESCO executive board will hold a meeting on Wednesday to decide if Pristina’s bid for membership is put to a final vote at a conference in November. On the other hand, the Serbian government opposes any international recognition of Kosovo, including UNESCO membership, and argues that Pristina does not have the will to protect Serb religious monuments located on Kosovo's territories.
