Bei Bei the giant panda said bye bye to the US on Tuesday and departed to China on a FedEx Boeing 777 freighter jet from Washington's Dulles International Airport.
Bei Bei, who left the Smithsonian's National Zoo earlier in the day, was loaded into the aircraft inside a travel crate made of steel and plexiglass and his favourite foods, including bamboo, fruits and sweet potatoes.
The 4-year old panda's caretaker Laurie Thompson and National Zoo chief veterinarian Don Neiffer are traveling alongside Bei Bei, who embarked on a day-long flight to Chengdu, in China's Sichuan province.
