More than 300 Whirpool employees marched from Garivate to the headquarters of the electrical appliance company in Comerio on Friday to protest against the mass lay-offs the company announced in April. With over 2000 employees laid off by the corporation, 13 buses were deployed to transport those affected from Caserta, Naples, Fabrianno and Varese among other towns and cities throughout Ialy. Union ULIM Secretary general Rocco Palombella accused Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi of having "distance" from the movement, demanding the government act with "responsibility" in dealing with the issue. The protest was organized by the unions FIM, FIOM, ULIM and UGL.
