At least 250 supporters of the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD), 'Die Rechte' (The Right) as well as the Thugida (Thuringia against the Islamisation of the West) movement took to the streets of Jena on Saturday, to protest the asylum policies of the German state and central government. The far-right demo was met with a counter protest, forcing police to separate the two groups. The pro-refugee group of at least 1,200 people carried banners and placards reading "Refugees Welcome" and "No place for inflammatory Nazi propaganda." Hundreds of police were stationed throughout the town, escorting both groups in order to prevent clashes.
