Hundreds of protesters, organised by Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Berlin (BDS Berlin), joined a rally at Karl-Marx-Platz in Berlin, Sunday, to commemorate Nakba Day, the anniversary of the displacement of around 750,000 Palestinians from their homeland that followed the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.
Protesters waved flags of Palestine and chanted in support of Gaza. Many signs and banners directly criticised German policy for supporting the Israeli military occupation and offensive in Palestine.
'Al-Nakba' means 'catastrophe' or 'disaster' in Arabic and is marked annually on May 15, after the Gregorian date of the creation of Israel.
