Myanmar Rescues More Than 200 Migrants From Two Boats On Thursday

Myanmar says it has rescued more than 200 migrants from two boats on Thursday afternoon, marking the first such rescue for the Southeast Asia country a day after it announced the start of a search-and-rescue operation in the Andaman Sea. The Malaysian Ministry of Information published photos on its Facebook page on Fridayshowing scores of migrants, many of them men with their shirts off, packed inside a Thai-owned 80-foot boat in a space with 6-foot ceilings. A majority of the migrants are Rohingya Muslims, who the Malaysians call Bengalis, a group of people who have been fleeing persecution from the country otherwise known as Burma. Others on the boat are said to be Bangladeshi.
