Mikheil Saakashvili, Governor of the Odessa Oblast, praised "the heroism" of those who allegedly helped Ukraine maintain control over Odessa, while mentioning the Odessa killings of May 2, 2014 in the same sentence, in Odessa, Thursday. "It was an exceptional effort," Saakashvili added. At the same time, dozens of members of pro-Maidan movements such as 'The Right Sector' gathered outside the administration building, as Saakashvili was speaking. Prior to his statements the governor adressed the protesters and shook their hands, while standing next to a Right Sector flag. Forty-eight people died, with over 200 injured, in a series of events that led to an inferno in the Trade Unions building in Odessa on May 2. After clashes erupted between anti-Maidan and pro-Maidan protesters, the latter group allegedly set fire to the Trade Unions House where anti-Maidan demonstrators had found refuge.
