Kerry: Critical Time to Acknowledge Journalists

Secretary of State John Kerry acknowledged World Press Freedom Day on Tuesday, calling for the release of journalists around the world who have been imprisoned. Kerry said in a statement, "We will continue to speak out when journalists are unfairly arrested and detained; we will continue to raise these issues with foreign officials at every level; and we will continue to promote journalists’ physical and digital safety." Though Kerry mentioned the January attacks on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris, he made no mention of the attack earlier this week on a Muhammad cartoon drawing competition in Texas.
