'Censorship, gives a bad name to journalists' said Yellow Vest protester Jean-Baptiste Redde whose "Macron Out" placard appeared on TV channel France3's Saturday coverage with the last word wiped from footage, speaking from Paris on Monday.
"What France3 did, the censorship, gives a bad name to journalists," Jean-Baptiste said, adding that "as far as the 'Yellow Vests' are concerned, journalists are in the same boat as the political-financial elite."
For Jean-Baptiste this "attack of censorship has nothing to do with the journalist's situation," but according to him this incident vindicates people who blame the media of manipulation and censorship.
"When you have something like this you revolt at some point," Jean-Baptiste said explaining that after watching the coverage he decided to take the matter to France's audiovisual regulatory council (CSA).
During Saturday's protests in Paris, France3 news program displayed an AFP (Agence France Presse) image featuring police officers in front of a big crowd outside the Paris Opera and protesters clutching signs, one of which was reading "Macron Out." The broadcasted image however had the word "Out" removed from the sign.
Responding to accusations of censorship that emerged right after the incident, France3 channel said that there was no intent to wipe the word, but a mere "human error" and vouched that this will "not happen again."
