Syria: Syrian Army successfully defends Sadad from IS offensive

Syrian Army forces battled with militants from the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly known as ISIS/ISIL) near the Syrian town of Sadad, Tuesday. The militant group are reportedly trying to take the highway between Homs and Damascus, while trying to secure the industrial centre of Hisyah in the Homs governorate. IS have made numerous attempts to establish control over Sadad. However, the Syrian Army, with the assistance of local residents, set up fortified positions around the settlement, conducted reconnaissance missions and successfully attacked IS positions in the area. The Syrian army continues to guard Sadad.
