Ye Olde Fighting Cocks Asked to Change Its Name

Britain's oldest pub may have to change its name, if animal rights group PETA gets its way.
PETA has asked Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, a pub in St Albans which dates back to the 8th century and is recognised by Guinness World Records as the oldest in the country, to change its name to Ye Olde Clever Cocks to "celebrate chickens."
PETA wrote to the pub last week, suggesting the name change "in recognition of society’s growing compassion for animals and in celebration of intelligent, sensitive chickens." However, pub landlord Christo Tofalli said he had a responsibility to reflect the venue's history.
