Six Turkish soldiers were killed and four others wounded after a roadside bomb exploded in the district of Caldiran in the southeastern Van province, Tuesday.
Turkish security sources have blamed militants from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) for the attack, which took place as a military vehicle was driving on a highway between Caldiran and the Dogubeyazıt district. The wounded parties were brought to a nearby hospital to be treated following the explosion.
South-eastern Turkey has been gripped by violence since Turkish security forces launched a large-scale security operation against the PKK and pro-Kurdish groups at the end of 2015. The operations have involved the imposition of curfews in Kurdish majority cities including Cizre and Diyarbakir, aerial bombings, and the mass detention of alleged dissenters in Turkey's south east.
