What's the Story Behind Yvette Cooper?

Yvette Cooper is a Labour Party politician who has served as shadow Home Secretary since 2011.
On May 13 she announced she is standing for Labour leadership, facing competition from Andy Burnham, Chuka Umunna, Liz Kendall and more.
Born in Inverness in 1969, Cooper is the daughter of a trade unionist chief and a maths teacher.
She grew up in Hampshire and later went on to read PPE at Oxford University where she achieved a first. She also studied at Harvard University and the London School of Economics. Despite surrounding herself in student theatre at university, she developed an interest in the anti-apartheid movement which was the catalyst for her political career.
