SOT, Jimena Paratcha, protester: "I'm here in support of the indigenous leaders who have been touring around Europe to denounce a series of violations that have been happening against indigenous people and their territories since Jair Bolsonaro took office. They're here today at the Brazilian Embassy here in London to give him an award for being the number one racist of the year."

SOT, Jimena Paratcha, protester: "I mean hopefully this tour and all the pressure now in Brazil after the murder of another indigenous leader who was only 26 years old, Paulo Guajajara, hopefully there's more support for doing something to protect the lands. I mean they've been taking a lot of funding out of the NGOs and the departments of the government that are looking after and supporting the guardianship of the forest. This needs to come back to the state."

SOT, Fiona Watson, protester: "We're here to protest against the president of Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro and his policies in the way his governments are violating the right of indigenous peoples. So we have eight indigenous leaders from Brazil who are here to tell the European community and the public at large that investments being made in Brazil's agri-business sector are devastating and destroying the lives and livelihoods of indigenous peoples. We are also here to hand in the Racist of the Year Award which is being awarded by Survival International and the Association of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil. Because Jair Bolsonaro is not only destroying indigenous peoples with his policies, he's whipping up hatred with his very racist rhetoric which is encouraging people to invade indigenous territories and steal their resources."

Eight indigenous leaders from across Brazil took part in a rally outside the Brazilian Embassy in London on Thursday, denouncing the "racist rhetoric" of President Jair Bolsonaro and his "violations against indigenous people and their territories."
The Association of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) with the help of a human rights organisation Survival International handed into the embassy a 'Racist of the Year' award for President Bolsonaro.
"Jair Bolsonaro is not only destroying indigenous peoples with his policies, he's whipping up hatred with his very racist rhetoric which is encouraging people to invade indigenous territories and steal their resources," said Fiona Watson, one of the protesters.
The indigenous leaders are in London as part of the 'Indigenous Blood: Not a Single Drop More' advocacy tour across Europe organised by the APIB.
After being elected in 2018, Bolsonaro promised to free up large areas of indigenous reserves for mining and farming in what demonstrators say would be a devastating attack on communities and the environment.
