Leader of the centre-right Venstre party Lars Lokke Rasmussen received a jubilant welcome from his supporters in parliament after winning the general elections in Copenhagen on Thursday, defeating Prime Minister Hell Thorning-Schmidt. With all votes counted, first results showed that the opposition bloc led by Rasmussen had won the 90 seats needed to get a majority in the 179-seat parliament. However Venstre, which ended third and lost support compared to the former elections, will probably need help of the eurosceptic Danish People's party (DPP), which became the second party with 21 percent, almost the double of just four years ago.
