Moldova: Tensions run high at US military display in Chisinau

Tensions ran high as local citizens protested against a display of the NATO military vehicles in the Great National Assembly Square Chisinau, Sunday. At least one protester was arrested.
In total 198 soldiers of the US 2nd Cavalry Regiment and 165 soldiers of the Moldavian National Army are involved in the joint US-Moldova Dragon Pioneer military drills, which will run until May 20.
On Tuesday, dozens of locals blocked a road near Chisinau, holding up dozens of US military vehicles in protest against perceived NATO expansionism in Moldova and Eastern Europe in general. The protesters held banners reading "Moldova without NATO" while chanting "NATO, go home."
