SOT, Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary-General of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO): "And we are going to have an important foreign ministerial meeting, where we are going to address the progress we are making on burden sharing. European allies and Canada have added one hundred billion extra for defence spending, but we need to keep up the momentum and do even more. And then we will also address strategic issues like Russia, arms control but also the implications of the rise of China, and NATO remains the only platform where North America and Europe sit together, meet together and make decisions together on issues of great importance over shared security. Once again welcome and thank you so much for your personal commitment to this alliance, for your leadership and for the way you help us to move this alliance forward, so it is great to see you again."

SOT, Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State: "It is great to see you too, thanks for coming to Washington, spending time with myself and with the President, we had a great series of conversations. I am looking forward to the meetings in December as well, and I know we will have a successful time there together too, where we set the conditions so we can have a successful leaders' summit and continue to drive this incredibly important NATO mission forward. So thanks for having me."

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg gave a warm welcome to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the sidelines of the foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels on Wednesday.
After a friendly handshake, Stoltenberg emphasised the Alliance's role as a Europe-North American forum of dialogue: "NATO remains the only platform where North America and Europe sit together, meet together and make decisions together on issues of great importance over shared security".
The NATO chairman praised a $100 billion (‎€90.385 million) defence budget raise by the allies but challenged them to increase spending even more. According to Stoltenberg, an extra raise would allow tackling "strategic issues like Russia, arms control but also the implications of the rise of China."
Secretary Pompeo was optimistic speaking on the upcoming Alliance meetings in London: "I am looking forward to the meetings in December as well, and I know we will have a successful time there together too, where we set the conditions so we can have a successful leaders' summit and continue to drive this incredibly important NATO mission forward."
