The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Palestinian Grand Mufti of Jerusalem during W.W.II, Haj Amin al-Husseini, of causing the Holocaust and "fomenting the final solution" on Tuesday while giving a speech at the World Zionist Conference in Jerusalem. The claims have been labelled absurd by historians who charge the Israeli leader with revisionism and historical distortion. Hitler is known to have advocated the extermination of the "Jewish race" in a 1939 speech to the Reichstag, two years before he had met with al-Husseini. Netanyahu's claim that "Hitler didn't want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jews" and that it was al-Husseini who advised Hitler to "burn them" led Palestinian Authority Secretary General, Saeb Erekat, to accuse the Israeli prime minister of "absolving Hitler."
