Former light-heavyweight boxing champion Roy Jones Jr. said that it was honour and pleasure to be a Russian-American citizen during a press conference in Moscow, Wednesday. "It's an honour and a pleasure to be here - to wake up as a Russian-American for the first day of my life," Jones Jr. stated. The US champion boxer was speaking alongside his Russian boxing promoter Vladimir Khryunov and his soon-to-be opponent Welsh boxer Enzo Maccarinelli. When asked why he sought Russian citizenship, Jones Jr. told reporters that he wanted to "bring knowledge here to Russia," adding that "now the Russians don't have to go abroad to get the knowledge they can get it at home." Jones Jr. wrote an application for Russian citizenship during a press-conference in Yalta, Crimea, at the end of August. Putin promised the boxing star that his request would be accepted if Jones Jr. were to spend a significant part of his time in Russia. The boxer's application was recently approved by Putin himself. Jones Jr. will fight Maccarinelli for the vacant WBA Super World Cruiserweight Championship on Saturday, December 12 in Moscow.
