Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Guillaume Long revealed the newest details of the historic peace talks between the Colombian state and the country's second largest rebel group, the National Liberation Army (ELN), in a press conference in Quito, Monday.
Whilst it was announced that Ecuador would host the talks earlier this month, no more details had been made known until now. Long said that while exact dates could not be offered, "both delegations are coming this week. And, formally, on November 3rd - next week - will begin the first round of dialogue."
He went on to reveal that the place hosting the talks would be the "Casa Cashapamba, a house belonging to the Pontifical University of Ecuador, in the Chillos Valley. This is a place that gathers all the conditions needed: security, isolation, comfortability, so both delegations can seat to negotiate the peace."
The peace talks with the ELN come around a month after Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos' peace accord with the largest rebel group, FARC, was thrown into turmoil when Colombian voters rejected the proposed peace deal by 50.24 percent in a referendum on October 2.
