Russia: 93-year-old WWII veteran awarded 'Order of Army General Margelov'

The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Airborne Troops Vladimir Shamanov awarded World War II veteran Polidorova Galina with the title 'Order of Army General Margelov in Moscow, Wednesday. The award is a non-governmental award issued to retired citizens who were once members of Airborne troops, special forces units and formations of the Marine Corps. Her title now reads 'Army General Margelov.' Galina, 93 today, graduated from service as a lieutenant of the 3rd Guards Airborne Brigade and participated in the Dnieper airborne operation, one of the largest airborne operations conducted by the Red Army during World War II. Red Army paratroopers landed behind German forces during the battle, which took place between September 24 and November 28 in 1943.
