Several thousand bikers drove through the streets of Woolwich, London, on Sunday to commemorate the third anniversary of the death of British soldier Lee Rigby. The bikers were cheered on by hundreds of bystanders as they made their way to their destination, Rigby's memorial which is located close to Rigby's barracks also in Woolwich.
"What happened on the streets of Woolwich will never be forgotten and we've got to make sure of that and we've got to make sure that our youngsters know about it and know that these things happen and that they should never happen," said Julia Stevenson, organiser of Lee Rigby Memorial Ride.
Among the attendees was Rigby's grandfather, who thanked those for attending, saying "we're here to join with all wonderful people to…to you know celebrate Lee's life, albeit very short life."
The killers of Rigby, Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, who stated that the attack was punishment for British soldiers killing Muslims overseas, were convicted of murder in December 2013. Adebolajo was given a whole-life sentence, while Adebowale was handed a minimum of 45 years in prison.
