Presidents from across South America and the Caribbean gathered in Quito, Wednesday, for the forth Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). The leaders are expected to discuss regional issues as well as the strengthening of cooperation between South and Central American countries.
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa welcomed his counterparts from across the region, at a reception featuring children dressed in traditional attire.
The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States was launched in December 2011. It represents 33 countries from South America and the Caribbean and seeks to foster integration among the countries and lessen US influence on regional, internal and economic affairs.
Meetings of CELAC will take place in the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) building of the Ecuadorian capital.
