Clashes erupted between riot police and protesters demonstrating against a rally held by LEGIDA, an offshoot of PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of the West), in Leipzig, Monday. Police and anti-LEGIDA protesters clashed at Leipzig Central Station, after a group of LEGIDA supporters marched through the east German city followed closely by a group of counter-demonstrators. Some of the LEGIDA supporters headed to the central station after the march, where they were followed by anti-LEGIDA protesters, but the police came inbetween the two groups, building a human barricade at the doors of the station to prevent the anti-LEGIDA protesters from entering. The police used batons and pepper spray to disperse the crowd and one arrest was made. Earlier on Monday, around 2,000 pro-refugee activists marched through the streets of Leipzig to protest against PEGIDA offshoot LEGIDA who were holding a rally before the march in the German city.
