Campaigners from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) protested outside the Louis Vuitton store in Berlin, on Tuesday, against the use of exotic animal skins in the fashion industry.
One protester, covered in crocodile-effect body paint, disrobed and lay in front of the store, on a public street, while fake blood was poured on her.
A PETA campaigner, Johanna, justified the use of a naked protester by saying, "Through naked skin, the person in the body paint is representing an alligator and through this [protest] we create a lot of awareness of these animals because naked skin is taken seriously by people and through this we can draw attention to this important issue, namely, the huge amount of suffering that animals in the exotic leather industry experience."
The protest turned the heads of many pedestrians on the famous Kurfuerstendamm shopping street, with one protester remarking, "I'm a bit shocked because one doesn't really think about this. I also have a bag from Louis Vuitton and I hadn't really thought about it."
