Turkey: Authorities search for answers on morning after Ankara blasts

11.10.2015
Forensic police kept working on Sunday in Ankara to establish how the two explosions that left at least 95 dead and more than 200 injured hit a demonstration for peace. The area around the arena stadium was blocked by police and tightened with heavy security measures. Authorities suspect two suicide bombers carried out the attack, although no one has claimed responsibility for the worst terrorist attack in Turkish history. The demonstration, which was scheduled two hours before the attack took place, was demanding peace between Turkish security forces and the Kurdish armed group PKK. The rally also expressed concerns over what protesters label the "growing authoritarianism" of the government, led by the Islamist Justice and Development party (AKP), founded by current Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
