A group of 100 protesters denounced the Christian theme park 'Ark Encounter' near Williamstown, Kentucky, Thursday, alleging that taxpayer money was used for the construction of the creationist full-scale replica of Noah's Ark.
The inauguration ceremony of the park was held on Tuesday, with hundreds of visitors arriving to see the costly attraction, a 510-foot-long (155.4 metres), 100 million dollar (€900 million) Noah's ark replica.
The apologetics ministry 'Answers in Genesis,' who are behind the creation is headed by Ken Ham, a central figure in the religious community of the US's Bible belt. Previously a Brisbane science teacher, Ham moved towards Biblical literalism, developing a large following, thanks to his conservative and creationist beliefs.
The park will officially open to the public on July 7 and will serve as a recreational museum where visitors can interact and learn how the Ark was built.
