Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticized the EU's immigration policy during a speech given in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the 1956 revolution, Budapest, Sunday.
After paying tribute to the revolution, stating that "we can be proud of our forebears and of our homeland," Orban said:
"Because of this we can't accept that they shape our common home (the European Union) to a modern empire. We don't want that instead of the union of free European Nations they give us a United States of Europe."
He added: "We have to block our borders to stop the streaming migration from south."
The event marked the anniversary of the failed Hungarian Uprising of 1956 against the government of the Hungarian People's Republic and the rule of the Soviet Union.
