German Foreign Minister and presidential candidate Frank-Walter Steinmeier said at a press conference in Berlin on Tuesday that it was no surprise that Donald Trump had promised to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) when he becomes US president.
Speaking alongside the Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati, Steinmeier said that "we shouldn't be so surprised [by these statements]. These were the [same] statements that we had already heard during the campaign.”
“I advise against commenting on every new statement, we should instead wait and see how a new American government will change the trade relationship between Europe and USA," he added.
The foreign minister also commented on Albania’s relations with Europe, which he described as close as well as assuring that Germany “will support the continuation of the reform process, and help if help is desired. We can be optimistic and encourage Albania to continue pursuing the European path.”
