Tensions were high as thousands of football fans swarmed the town of Elbasan on Thursday for the Albania-Serbia Euro 2016 qualifier. Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic had already stated that he will not attend the game, which takes place a year after the two sides were involved in a violent confrontation during a match in Belgrade. Over 1,400 police and 500 special forces officers were deployed around the town to prevent any possible clashes. Over 12,000 fans are expected to attend the event at Elbasan Arena. In October 2014, a game in Belgrade between the two sides was abandoned after a man flew a drone with an Albanian nationalist flag attached, which then led to the invasion of the pitch and the deduction of three points from Serbia.
