Protesters started fires and tear gas was deployed as the 'Yellow Vests' returned to the streets of Paris for the 45th consecutive week on Saturday. The rally was not authorised by the local authorities.
Footage shows protesters running as tear gas is fired to disperse them, a police officer hitting a protester on his face and a motorbike set on fire.
According to media reports, about 7,500 police officers were deployed and over a hundred demonstrators have been arrested so far.
Thousands of people have been taking to the streets since the Yellow Vests movement began in France last November, with protesters voicing their grievances which range from high taxes on fuel to income inequality.
